Does Stolen Candy Taste Better Than Earned?

When do we learn to avoid the same mistakes? When do we quit following bad leaders? When do we see behind the rotten system? As fear, greed, and selfishness spread across the world like an oil leak contaminating the surrounding environment, there is one thing I have been thinking of: Why do we people desire everything that other people have?

Taste of Bittersweet

When I was ten, I stole candy from school. They were over left candy from sales where we were gathering money for a class trip. Something inside me made me do it instead of asking for sweets from my parents. This easy situation with minimal risks made a kind and honest girl turn into a thief.

I was looking at those packages of candy hidden inside my closet daily, and gradually guilt started to conquer my mind. Finally, the day came when I needed to tell my mom and show her what I had done. She was too gentle with me, and we didn’t return those candies.

However, the shame I felt for being disappointed in my parent’s eyes was efficient. I did eat by myself, all of those 20 little bags of sweets, with bittersweet guilt haunting my mind. It was a strong experience that I still remember.

Evil Actions Cannot Bring Happiness

I didn’t continue my stealing career, and I became a lawyer. I decided to walk on the bright side. Then, I made a huge mistake one day and became a victim of a massive cryptocurrency scam. Eventually, this bad incident turned into a blessing, but the road to recovery was not easy.

I have thought a lot about revenge and terror that scammers and other fraudsters are causing worldwide. When I pictured the scammers sipping mojitos by the pool at their mansion, they got through dishonest means; I also saw gray clouds emerging in their sky. Thinking about it more deeply, I doubt they could ever feel satisfied entirely with what they had achieved.

All those suffering individuals and damaged lives they had left behind. How could they ever enjoy their life with the money they had stolen from other people? If they only attract dark vibes behind them, it seems impossible that their own life could ever be happy.

Karma Will Always Follow You

No amount of money has ever made me happy for long. Salary raises, gifts, and investment profits have never brought durable satisfaction. Happiness is something that, for me, comes from nonmaterial things. Making good to other people and learning to appreciate more what I already have at the moment gets me to live to the fullest.

Since materialistic things can’t bring long-term fulfillment, I’m sure the euphory of victory dance from these evil actions will fade away. At some point, the brutality of life must come across everyone. We often make the mistake of thinking that some people only win while others suffer. But life doesn’t go that way. Eventually, I believe that we all get what we deserve.

Sometimes life gives, sometimes it takes, and this is the same for everyone. There are bad and good experiences for us all. The crucial decision is how you react to your current situation and if you allow it to break or make you grow even stronger.

Instead of mellowing in loss, revenge, and bitterness, I’ve thought my mind into thinking differently. I believe that only good actions can decrease the impact of malicious behavior in this world. There will always be a struggle between good and evil in every person’s life. However, we as individuals have the opportunity to decide in what kind of world we want to live in.

With Love,
Jenna
